Summer is the time for festivals in Montreal, and we planned our arrival around some of the big ones. Many of these are outdoors and free.
COMPLÈTEMENT CiRQUE • July 5 – 15
We stumbled upon Completement Cirque last summer; they close down part of Rue St. Denis, a large street lined with shops and restaurants, for this festival. There’s a pretty eclectic mix of performances, including acrobatics, clownery and magic – and most of the acts have a fun interactive element.

Montreal Jazz Festival • June 28 – July 7
Taking place at the Place des Festivals, this is another “just show up anytime” event with over 300 shows over the course of ten days in July. Jazz isn’t really my thing, but when it’s free and you can just pop in without having to make too much of a committment, I’m willing to try anything.
